What Are You Seeking?

Sometimes it can be difficult to know if we come to church to help others, to help ourselves, or do to God a favor. Perhaps at different points in our lives we think it's each of those things. This means it's easy to sometimes slip into a consumer mentality where it's other people's responsibility to make my worship experience meaningful. This sermon presents a mindset that can transform the worship experience for everyone.

Isaiah 53 may be one of the most familiar passages in Isaiah, and even the Bible as a whole. How many people know the context of this great chapter? This sermon examines the context and provides hope for us all that God always has something better in mind for his people.

Jesus' birth is more than an historical event. Jesus' birth is the First Coming of the Son of God. It gives us a taste of the Kingdom of Heaven, and it prompts us to long for the Second Coming of the Son of God.

Matthew's account of Jesus life begins with an empty manger. Before he introduces the Messiah, he tells us Jesus origin story. Within this big picture he mentions four women: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth and Bathsheba. These women set the stage for Jesus by reminding us that God responds to faith with mercy.

The Wisdom of Thanksgiving

The book of Proverbs doesn't mention the Exodus, or other major events in Israel's history, yet God is all through it. Proverbs reminds us to recognize and seek God in the small stuff. And that's something for which we can give thanks.

Everyone makes foolish decisions at various points in our lives. Sometimes the book of Proverbs sounds like it writes us off as a lost cause because of those decisions. However, Proverbs is a redemptive book that encourages everyone to pursue wisdom. Small wise decisions have long-term consequences.
