Core Values - MLK & LR

This sermon describes some of the core values of Lawson Rd Church of Christ. We seek to match these core values with the overall movement of Scripture. Because the following day is Martin Luther King Day, we also look at how he incorporated these values in his teaching regarding the Civil Rights Movement.

God Unshackled - Christmas

Jesus' birth is more than an historical event. Jesus' birth is the First Coming of the Son of God. It gives us a taste of the Kingdom of Heaven, and it prompts us to long for the Second Coming of the Son of God.

Freedom Unshackled

If Jesus came to make us free, why do so many churches make so many rules for people to follow? What does it mean for people to be "free indeed"?

Mercy Unshackled

Matthew's account of Jesus life begins with an empty manger. Before he introduces the Messiah, he tells us Jesus origin story. Within this big picture he mentions four women: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth and Bathsheba. These women set the stage for Jesus by reminding us that God responds to faith with mercy.

The Wisdom of Thanksgiving

The book of Proverbs doesn't mention the Exodus, or other major events in Israel's history, yet God is all through it. Proverbs reminds us to recognize and seek God in the small stuff. And that's something for which we can give thanks.
